I'm not saying I'm old, but I used emails with bangpaths:
In Nov 1989 The World became the first commercial Internet Service Provider.
I got an e-mail account with TheWorld.com (Software Tool and Die) in May of 1991:
Online usage for brigc (uid 1642)
Mon May 13 1991 15:45:46 -> Mon May 13 1991 15:47:31 (00:01:45) $ 0.06
Prior to this, I'd had short-lived accounts on Compu$erve,
The Well (email@example.com),
and one through my employer at the time, which used bang paths and uucp via NCR Wichita, KS (...!ncrwic!swindn!brig).
I'm currently using my own domain and username at BRIGC@BCMCCOY.COM

For what it's worth, I've been a customer of Tiger Technologies
since Aug of 2008 and am very comfortable recommending them
to friends as a hosting solution for web and e-mail.
If you click on the logo above and sign up for service with
Tiger Technologies, I'll get a small referral fee.
First time I've ever felt good enough about a company to
actually sign up for a referral program like this.
